How to vote.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 5th. Make sure your voice is heard. Here's a step-by-step guide.

1. Make sure you're registered at your current address.

Every D.C. resident will receive a ballot in the mail before Election Day. You'll only receive yours if the D.C. Board of Elections has you recorded as a registered voter at your current address. You can check your voter registration status right here. If any of your info is outdated, go ahead and update it. If you're not registered, there are a few ways you can register—online, by mail, or in person on Election Day. I highly recommend doing it online as early as possible. Follow the instructions on the Board of Elections site.

2. Check your mail.

The D.C. Board of Elections will mail out everyone's ballots throughout the month of October. If, for whatever reason, you don't get yours, be sure to contact the Board of Elections: (202) 727-2525.

3. Do your research.

Look into each of the candidates on your ballot. Don't assume anything based on familiarity or party affiliation. Especially at the local level, candidates can have widely divergent views even within a party. My priorities are right here. If you have any questions or if you wish to make me aware of anything, please reach out.

3. Cast your vote.

There are a few ways you can cast your vote. Here are your options:

  • Drop it off. The easiest way to cast your vote is to drop it off at a drop box. In ANC 6E06, our drop box is located in front of the CVS at the corner of M St. NE and First St. NE (across the street from Harris Teeter). That drop box will be there from October 11th through Election Day, November 5th, at 8 p.m. My advice is to drop it off right after you've completed it so you don't forget.

  • Mail it in. You can also mail your ballot to the Board of Elections. Follow the Board's mail-in voting instructions to a tee. Note that if you're a first-time voter, you'll have to send some forms of identification and proof of residence.

  • Vote in person early. If you prefer to vote in person, you can do so before Election Day. Here's the Board of Elections list of early voting centers.

  • Vote in person on Election Day. You can cast your vote in person on Election Day, Tuesday, November 5th. Here's where you can do it. As long as you're in line before 8 p.m., you can vote, no matter how late. (Don't let anyone try to turn you away after 8 p.m. just because that's when the polls officially "close.") If you're still not registered on Election Day, you can register in person before you vote. Make sure you bring everything you need.
